1:15PM New York – Research in Motion soars 6% and Constellation Brands rises on fiscal year outlook.[/R]
Research In Motion Limited, wireless device maker reported fiscal fourth 2008 fourth quarter of $1.88 billion, up 102% from $930.4 million in the same quarter of last year.
For the quarter ended March 1, the Canadian company earned $412.5 million, or 72 cents per share, up from $187.4 million, or 33 cents per share, in the same period a year earlier 2006.
Revenue for the fiscal year ended March 1, 2008 was $6.01 billion, up 98% from $3.04 billion last year. For the fiscal year 2008, net income was $1.29 billion, or $2.26 per share diluted, up 105% over fiscal 2007.
RIM shipped 4.4 million wireless devices in the fourth quarter and approximately 14 million in during the fiscal 2008.
The company said it expects earnings per share in the first quarter of its fiscal 2009 between 82 cents and 86 cents per share. Revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2009 is expected to be in the range of $2.23 to $2.30 billion.

Constellation Brands, Inc. (
STZ: chart), the world''s biggest wine distributor reported net sales in the fourth quarter after excise taxes fell to $884.4 million from $1.14 billion a year earlier.
The distributor reported a loss of $831.9 million, or $3.90 a share, after paying preferred dividends for the December-February period compared with a year-ago profit of $70.2 million, or 29 cents a share.
Branded wine sales in the U.S. fell 2% in the quarter. Sales rose 4% in Europe, fell 2% in Australia and New Zealand and dropped 3% in North America.
Fiscal 2008 net income was $321 million, or $1.44 diluted earnings per share compared to $403 million or $1.68 per share in the the prior year.
The company forecast a profit between $1.68 and $1.76 for the fiscal 2009 compared to a consensus estimate of $1.67 among analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial.
Constellation Brands, Inc. (
STZ: chart), shares rose 53 cents, or 2.8%, to $19.25.
Hooker Furniture Corporation reported net sales increased 3.8% to $82.3 million in the fourth quarter compared to net sales of $49.1 million in the previous year. Net income in the quarter was $4.6 million, or $0.39 per share compared to a net loss of $18.4 million, or $1.52 per share, for the same period 2007.
For the fiscal year ended February 3, 2008 annual net sales of $316.8 million compare with net sales decreased $33.2 million, or 9.5%, from fiscal year 2006. For the year, profit grew 39% to $19.7 million, or $1.58 per share, from $14.1 million, or $1.18 per share in the prior year.
Fiscal 2008 operating income increased to $29.7 million, or 9.4% of net sales, compared to $22.8 million, or 6.5% of net sales, in 2006. Fourth quarter 2008 operating income was $7.1 million, or 8.7% of net sales, versus a net operating loss of $17.2 million, or 35.1% of net sales, during the 2007 transition period.

HOFT: chart), shares rose $1.79, or 7.7%, to $24.99.
Ruby Tuesday, Inc a restaurant chain said that total revenues for the third quarter were down by 7.1% to $351.2 million compared to revenues of $377.9 million a year ago.
Third quarter fiscal 2008 same-restaurant sales at Company-owned Ruby Tuesday restaurants decreased 12.7%.
Same-restaurant sales at domestic franchise decreased 12.0%, as compared to a decrease of 1.0% at the company owned locations.
Earnings per share in the third quarter ending on April 2 were $0.23 on net income of $11.7 million compared to earnings per share of $0.49 on net income of $28.7 million in the previous year.
