PepsiCo Falls on Earnings Decline, J&J Rises

Johnson & Johnson reported third quarter revenues rose 6.3% to $15.9 billion and net income rose 30% to $3.31 billion or $1.17 a share. PepsiCo, Inc said third quarter revenues rose 11% to $11.24 billion and net income fell 9% to $1.58 billion or 99 cents a share.

ADTRAN, Inc, a provider of networking and communications equipment reported third quarter revenues rose 11% to $137.2 million from $123.8 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 4% to $22.41 million or 35 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $21.45 million or 31 cents per share, a year ago.

ADTRAN, Inc (ADTN: chart) in the last one year traded as high as $26.50 in July 2008 and as low as $16.49 in March 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price the company has a market cap of $1.23 billion.

Johnson & Johnson, the health-care products giant reported third quarter revenues rose 6.3% to $15.9 billion from $14.97 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 30% to $3.31 billion or $1.17 per diluted share compared to net income of $2.55 billion or 88 cents per share, a year ago.

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ: chart) in the last one year traded as high as $72.76 in September 2008 and as low as $52.06 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price the company has a market cap of $175.16 billion.

PepsiCo, Inc, a global snack and beverage company reported third quarter revenues rose 11% to $11.24 billion from $10.17 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 9% to $1.58 billion or 99 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $1.74 billion or $1.06 per share, a year ago.

PepsiCo also announced a plan to lower 3,300 staff or 1.8% of its workforce. The company lowered its earnings estimate to a range between $3.67 and $3.68 a share from its earlier estimate of at least $3.72 a share on the recent rise in dollar against most world currencies.

Non-carbonated drinks volume in the U.S. declined 5% and for the carbonated beverages fell 3% on weak demands as customers economize.

PepsiCo, Inc (PEP: chart) in the last one year traded as high as $79.79 in January 2008 and as low as $53.21 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price the company has a market cap of $96.70 billion.

Polaris Industries Inc, a manufactures all-terrain vehicles, snowmobiles and motorcycles reported third quarter sales rose 7% to $580.3 million from $544.0 million a year ago. Net income in the quarter fell 3% to $37.7 million or $1.13 per diluted share compared to net income of $38.8 million or $1.06 per share, a year ago.

Polaris Industries Inc (PII: chart) in the last one year traded as high as $54.66 in October 2007 and as low as $33.27 in October 2008. Based on the yesterday’s closing price the company has a market cap of $1.14 billion.

Stanley Furniture Company, Inc, a designer and manufacturer of residential wood furniture said third quarter sales fell 25.6% to $54.5 million from $73.1 million a year ago. Net loss in the quarter was $3.49 million or 34 cents per diluted share compared to net income of $1.64 million or 16 cents per share, a year ago.

W.W. Grainger, Inc, a maintenance products distributor reported third quarter sales rose 11% to $1.84 billion from $1.66 billion a year ago. Net income in the quarter rose 28% to $140 million or $1.79 per diluted share compared to net income of $109.2 million or $1.29 per share, a year ago.
