InBev Profit Surges 55.8%

The Belgian brewer InBev reported 2007 revenues increase of 7.2% to 14.4 billion euros from 13.3 billion euros a year earlier as revenues in Latin America North increased 34% and leapt 24% in Western Europe. In particular, beer volumes in Brazil grew by 5.6% and the market share in 2007 rose to 67.8%.

Quarterly Earnings Review

InBev reported that revenues for the fourth quarter ended December 31st increased 8% to 3.88 billion euros from 3.59 billion euros in the comparative period a year ago buoyed by strong sales in Latin America.

For the quarter, profit rose to 900 million euros from 371 million euros in the year ago quarter on the one-time gain of 339 million euros from the sale of Belgian and Dutch brands, including lower tax rates.

Costs for shipping glass and aluminum used for packaging continued to increase in the quarter. Cost of sales in 2007 rose only 2% from a year ago on 2.1% reduction in operating cost in 2007 and 7.7% in the fourth quarter.

Beer volume in 2007 rose 4.7% and in the fourth quarter increased 4.3% from a year ago.

Annual Earnings Review

InBev reported revenues in the year ended December 31st grew 7.2% to 14.4 billion from 13.3 billion euros in the year ago period.

For the year, profit attributable to equity holders increased 55.8% to 2.19 billion euros from 1.41 billion euros a year earlier.

Earnings before income, taxes and depreciation and amortization jumped 16.5% to 4.9 billion euros from 4.2 billion euros in 2006.

Revenues

The beer maker realised strong revenue growth in Latin America North where sales increased 11% followed and in South America climbed 24%.

In Central and Eastern Europe revenues increased 15% and in North America increased 11% growth.

Latin America South and Asia Pacific both had a 7% increase in revenues.

Sales of Beck’s, a German brand, had a premium growth of 13% outside the home market, while the Stella Artois brand spread in 6 premium markets worldwide.

North America

Volumes in the year fell 0.5% to 12.5 million of hl from 14.34 million of hl in 2006 and revenues declined from 1.83 billion euros to 1.56 billion euros.

However, Lakeport brands grew throughout the year, while Stella Artois continued to gain market share in the U.S.

Latin America North

In Latin America North, volumes climbed 5.7% to 100.87 million of hl from 94.6 hl. Revenues also increased 12% from 4.1 billion euros to 4.9 billion euros as beer volumes in Brazil surged 5.6%.
