European stock markets searched for direction amid mixed company reports and oil price swings ahead of a key meeting of oil producers. The Bank of England left its main interest rates unchanged at 0.5%. Burberry reported a decline in same-store sales and issued a profit warning for fiscal 2017.

Bank of America net plunged 18% as trading revenue tumbled 16%. BlackRock net tumbled 20% and revenues fell 4%. Delta Air net soared 27%. Progressive net dropped 13% while revenues soared 15%. Wells Fargo profit declined 5% and non-performing assets increased.

European markets closed higher after oil rebounded ahead of OPEC meeting this weekend and mining companies extended their gains. Anglo Americanís unit De Beers reported growth in diamond sales for the third month in a row. The Italian government confirmed plans for a bailout fund.

European stocks made a strong comeback on Friday and trimmed weekly losses in market indexes as Italian banks rallied and rising oil prices buoyed energy stocks. German trade surplus increased to Ä19.8 billion on strong growth in exports. Air France-KLM reported a rise in passenger traffic in March.
