After a volatile year, U.S. indexes failed to make advance in the second-half. S&P 500 index declined 0.6% in 2015 but the Tollbooth Strategy led the U.S. indexes with a surge of 7.6%. Germany led the European markets with 15.6% rise and Japan closed up 9.1%.

Market indexes in the U.S. struggled to stay in the positive for the year and France and Germany led markets in Europe. In Asia, Japan closed up 9.1% for the year as index in India dropped more than 8% in 2015.

European markets declined on Wednesday, led by mining and energy companies. Apple Italia agreed to pay €318 million to settle a tax dispute. Alstom lifted its stake by 8% in Russian Transmashholding. Willis Group acquired the remaining 70% stake in Gras Savoye.

S&P 500 index traded in the positive zone for the year after tech stocks rallied and energy complex stocks edged higher. Crude oil jumped 2%. European markets extended yearly gains but the FTSE 100 index lagged and the markets in Asia closed mixed.
