BHEL said orders on the book soared 10% to ₹30,814 crore from a year ago quarter and estimated 62% decline in profit. KEC International won new orders for about ₹1,565 crore. L&T secured orders worth ₹5,492 crore in March. NTPC plans to invest ₹5,000 crore in power plants.

Net new job creation in March fell sharply to 126,000, ending the year-long stretch of job addition of more than 200,000. The March month job addition was the smallest in fifteen months and the jobless rate in the month held at 5.5%. January and February job increased were revised lower.

Stocks in Tokyo closed higher in thin trading and investors awaited jobs data in the U.S. Toyota said it plans to build additional manufacturing plants in China and in Mexico. Toyota estimated operating profit in the latest fiscal year of 2.7 trillion yen.

Market indexes in New York and in Europe rebounded on the last day of 4-day week. Crude oil price edged lower as Iran, EU and the U.S. are nearing an accord on nuclear talks. U.S. trade deficit in February narrowed to $35.4 billion and weekly jobless claims declined 20,000.

AutoNation March retail sales jumped 5% and quarterly sales soared 10%. CarMax profit surged 44% on 14% increase in revenues. Micron Technology net soared 28%. Rite Aid same store sales in March jumped 4.3%. Sears to raise $2.5 billion and sell stores in a REIT spinoff.

Bollore increased its stake in Vivendi SA to 12.01% to fend off a hostile takeover. Marks and Spencer sales in fourth-quarter jumped 2%. Playtech agreed to acquire 91.1% stake in TradeFX for €208 million. Tate & Lyle lowered pretax profit outlook from earlier estimate.

Stocks in Japan rebounded and export sensitive sectors led the gainers. Seven & I Holdings said fiscal year revenues increased 7.9% but net income declined 1.5%. Sony cut in half its stake to 5% in Olympus Corp.

Australian market indexes gained on the final day of holiday-shortened week and iron ore prices extended losses to the sixth day in a row. The ongoing correction in the iron ore prices also contributed to the widening of trade deficit in February.

U.S. Stocks struggled for the second day in a row. Construction spending fell in February. Crude oil inched back up to $50 a barrel and gold traded above $1,200 an ounce. Two private reports suggested that manufacturing growth slowed and private sector hiring was smaller than expected.
