U.S. stocks struggled to advance after economic growth in the final quarter was revised down to 2.2% from the previous estimate of 2.6%. For all of 2014, economic expansion accelerated to 2.4% from 2.2% in 2013. J.C. Penney plunged 6% on weaker outlook.

Autodesk net tumbled 79% but revenues soared 13%. Barnes & Noble plans to spin off the college bookstore division. CST Brands net surged 177% while revenues declined 11%. Icahn Enterprises and J C Penney net swung to a loss. KBR net loss widened. Ross Stores profit climbed 14%.

Airbus profit soared 59% to €2.3 billion on 5% increase in revenues. BASF net surged 26% to €1.4 billion. IAG net soared 452% to €309 million. Lloyds Banking net swung to profit to £1.5 billion. Old Mutual net tumbled 13% to £852 million on 22% decline in revenues. Spectris net plummeted.

Nikkei in Japan extended to another 15-year high as investors digested several economic reports. Auto production declined for the seventh month in a row and housing starts fell for the eleventh month. Also, the latest measure of inflation showed a decline and jobless rate was unchanged.

In active trading, market indexes in Sydney rebounded and the Aussie dollar traded near 78 U.S. cents. Cabcharge first-half revenues declined 2.1% and net fell 13%. Graincorp estimated lower operating and net income in fiscal 2015. Woolworths first-half net declined 3.8%.

Ahold net tumbled 77% to €594 million. Bayer profit climbed 7% to €3.4 billion. British American Tobacco net plunged 19% to £3.4 billion. Deutsche Telekom surged three-fold to €2.9 billion. RBS net loss narrowed to £3.5 billion. Thales profit climbed 25%.

Nikkei average rebounded to a new 15-year high after the yen weakened. Industrial & Infrastructure Fund said first-half revenues declined 2.9%. Sony said it is not planning to sell its TV and mobile phone businesses it plans to spin off.
