Stocks in Tokyo closed lower for the fifth day in a row and the yen traded above 102 level against the U.S. dollar. Asahi Group said quarterly net surged 25%. The largest trading company Mitsui & Co Ltd reported a slight decline in earnings on weak petroleum and commodities sales.

Australian stocks closed lower and investors focused on the international commodities prices. The Aussie dollar traded above 93 U.S. cents and gold and oil traded lower in Sydney.

Ageas net plunged 93% to €31 million and sell Ageas Protect to American International Group for €228 million. Hannover net climbed 5% to €444 million. ING Groep net surged 20% to €1.07 billion. Siemens plans to sell its hospital IT business to Cerner for $1.3 billion.

Stocks on Wall Street drifted lower after mixed earnings report. A private measure of service sector in the U.S. showed larger than expected expansions and a government measure on factory orders increased 1.1% in June. Gannett is planning to spin off USA Today and print business.

Archer Daniels second-quarter net surged more than doubled. CVS Caremark second-quarter net jumped 12% to $1.3 billion. Coach fourth-quarter net plunged 66% to $75 million. HCP second-quarter net rose 3%. Marathon Oil second-quarter net surged 27% to $540 million.

Market indexes in Japan declined for the fourth day in a row as investors reacted to domestic earnings and higher yen. Toyota Motor reported 2.2% increase in first-quarter revenues. Isuzu Motors said profits were ahead of expectations. Marubeni Corp sales in first-half increased 18%.

Reserve Bank of Australia left its key lending rate at historic low of 2.5% for the 12th month in a row. Market indexes closed lower for the third consecutive day. Cochlear soared 10% after sales in the first-half rebounded.
