Becton, Dickinson net and revenue rose 4%. BorgWarner net jumped 12%. ConocoPhillips net slid 0.9%. Domino''s sales and profit climbed Exxon Mobil net dropped 4%. Kellogg net surged 30%. MasterCard net and revenue climbed 14%.

BSkyB net declined 15% to £623 million and itís available on Sonyís PlayStation 4 from this summer. Lloyds soared despite profit tumbled 25% to £1.2 billion and revenue declined 7%. Rolls-Royce expected revenue and profit for the year to be flat. Shire net surged to $230 million.

U.S. stocks struggled and maintained downward bias after weekly jobless claims increased more than expected. Also, world markets were on the defensive after the latest manufacturing data confirmed slowing Chinese economy. Exxon Mobil and MasterCard reported higher earnings.

Broader market averages gained to a 3-week high and domestic earnings were in focus. Kyushu Electric and Hokkaido Electric Power gained after the companies said a government-backed bank will invest in utilities. Seiko Epson swung to profit. Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha reported higher earnings.

Australian stocks opened lower and steadily lost ground in active trading. The Aussie dollar firmed up and traded above 93 U.S. cents. ANZ Banking Group said first-half earnings increased 11% and lifted its dividend. Lynas Corp reaffirmed its annual production outlook.
