U.S. stocks opened lower after tensions between Russia and Germany and U.S. escalated and China manufacturing index showed larger than expected contraction. Gold gained 1.2%. Target CEO Steinhafel resigned following data breach in December. Pfizer net dropped 15%.

Australian stocks closed slightly higher in a quiet trading ahead of RBA meeting tomorrow. The central bank is expected keep record low interest rates as building approvals contracted 3.5% in March. Westpac Banking Corp reported quarterly net income increased 10%.

ABB net jumped 20% but sales fell. Ajanta Pharma profit surged 159%. Ashok Leyland sales in April declined 21%. Grasim sales and profit jumped. RCom net tumbled 49% but R Capital profit rose. Tata Motors April sales dropped 34%.

AstraZeneca board rejected revised £63.1 billion offer made by Pfizer. InterContinental Hotels climbed after it plans to distribute $750 million through special dividend. Royal Bank of Scotland profit surged to £1.2 billion. Software AG net plunged 32% to €18.6 million.

U.S. stocks failed to build on the better-than-expected monthly payrolls increase in April. Employers at all levels added 288,000 jobs and March increase was revised higher to 203,000. However, labor participation rate declined to 35-year low of 62.8%.

For the week, the Nikkei index slipped 0.4% and investors reacted to domestic earnings. Asahi fiscal year sales increased 10%. Axial Retailing annual net surged 39%. Idemitsu Kosan annual revenues rose 15% but net plunged 28%.

Australian stocks closed higher and for the week the benchmark index declined 1.3%. Stock trading turnover was dipped below 60-day average and investors focused on domestic earnings. Myer quarterly sales declined 1%. Macquarie Group annual net income soared 49%.

Bata India net rose 2% and revenue climbed 9%. HeidelbergCement India net swung to profit after sales soared. KEC Intl net swung to a profit. Merck profit climbed 75%. NOCIL net tumbled 55% but sales surged 46%. Shriram City Union Finance net soared 20%.

Bajaj Auto total sales in April dropped 4% but export climbed 16%. Hero Motocorp sales climbed 14%. Maruti Suzuki total sales declined 11.4% after domestic sales plunged 13% and passenger car sales dropped 14%. M&M auto sales declined 12%. TVS sales climbed 15%.
