Yasakawa Electric declined after the power company estimated lower than expected current year income. Monex Group, the online security provider said fiscal year revenues increased 51%.

Market indexes in Tokyo drifted lower and the yen eased after trade deficit in March quadrupled from a year ago. Consumer lending stocks soared on a speculation that the government may loosen restrictions. Drugstore chain Genky said quarterly sales increased 4%.

Australian stocks closed higher in thin trading. Oil Search advanced after issuing a positive outlook but quarterly sales declined 19%. Singapore competition authority approved the alliance between Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines.

Gujarat Gas dropped after its board approved consolidation of its entities. HDFC Bank net climbed 23% and revenue jumped 15%. HEG profit surged 33%. MRF net declined 19% but revenue soared 14%. Novartis surged after promoter agreed to acquire cancer drug business from GSK for $16 billion.

Halliburton and Hasbro net swung to a profit. Hillshire Brands agreed to acquire Van''s Natural Foods for $165 million. Kimberly Clark net rose 1%. Pfizer plans in acquire AstraZeneca for £60 billion. TreeHouse agreed to acquire Protenergy for $150 million.

ALSTOM India secured a contract worth €30 million from BHEL. Hindustan Zinc net declined 13%. LIC Housing Finance profit soared 17%. Reliance net rose 0.8% but revenue climbed 13%. TCS and Japan-based Mitsubishi form a new software company. Wipro net surged 41%.

Australian market indexes struggled to advance but a last minute rally lifted indexes. Australian imports in March declined 2% form the revised February data. Santos estimated higher production in the current year.
