Stocks in Shanghai plunged after investors worried of the government crackdown on new loans and housing bubble. The benchmark index has surged more than 75% in the last nine months. China Cosco dropped after it estimated a loss in the first half on weak container and dry bulk cargo.

Mumbai stocks retreated after sharp gains in the last ten days and on earnings jitters. Jindal Steel surged after its earnings gained on currency bets. Aditya Birla Nuvo Ltd dropped on poor results. DLF fell back from its recent highs ahead of earnings. National Fertilizers declined.

Nissan reported its third quarterly loss and Honda first quarter net plunged 96%. Yahoo Japan surged after it estimated higher sales and earnings in the second quarter. Nippon steel declined after it estimated loss in the second quarter.

The global asset management firm revenues were $613 million for the quarter, down just 1%. Net income zoomed 238% to $50 million. Earnings per share were 35 cents compared to a loss of 26 cents in the year ago quarter.

The Chinese-language Internet search provider total quarterly revenue rose 37% to RMB1.1 billion or $161 million. Net quarterly income surged 45% to RMB383.3 million or $56.1 million. Earnings per share climbed to RMB11.02 or $1.61 from RMB7.62 or $1.11 a year-ago quarter.

UK home prices in June edged 0.1% higher from May but declined 14% from a year ago. London prices increased 2% in the month and fell 12.5% from a year ago. BP Plc second quarter net profit dropped 53%. Investec plans to raise £90 million.

Hitachi Ltd plans to spend nearly $3 billion to acquire five subsidiaries in information and technology areas. Sapporo Holdings lowered its estimate of first half loss. JFE increased after it issued optimistic outlook by reported a loss in the first quarter.
