U.S. Movers: Amedisys, Costco, Stage Stores, Bon-Ton, Urban Outfitters

10:45 AM New York – Amedisys fourth quarter net swung to $106.8 million loss and Casey’s General net dropped 7%. Costco second quarter net jumped 39% to $547 million. Stage Stores net climbed 7%. Urban Outfitters net surged more than doubled.

Amedisys, Inc. (AMED) dropped 3.5% or 44 cents to $11.81 after the health care company said net sales in the fourth quarter ending in December slipped 2% to $362.9 million from $370.3 million in the same period of last year. The quarter swung to a net loss of $106.8 million or $3.52 a diluted share compared to net income of $4.31 million or 15 cents a share a year ago.

The company anticipates net service revenue for the year between $1.43 billion and $1.45 billion and diluted earnings per share in the range of 60 cents to 70 cents.

Casey’s General Stores, Inc (CASY) declined 4.2% or $2.41 to $54.99 after the retailer said total revenue in the third quarter ending in January climbed 5% to $1.66 billion from $1.58 billion in the same period of last year. Net income in the quarter dropped 7% to $15.5 million or 40 cents a diluted share compared to $16.7 million or 43 cents a share a year ago.

Costco Wholesale Corporation (COST) gained 1.9% or $2 to $104.44 after the specialty retailer stated total revenue in the second quarter ending on February 17 surged 8% to $24.9 billion from $23 billion in the same period of last year. Comparable store sales for the quarter rose 5%.

Net income in the quarter jumped 39% to $547 million or $1.24 a diluted share compared to $394 million or 90 cents a share a year ago.

Stage Stores, Inc. (SSI) increased 1.4% or 40 cents to $27.20 after the retailer said total revenue in the fourth quarter ending on February 2 surged 8% to $527.9 million from $479 million in the same period of last year. Comparable store sales for the quarter surged 5.7%.

Net income in the quarter climbed 7% to $35.8 million or $1.09 a diluted share compared to $32.7 million or $1.05 a share a year ago.

The company expects comparable store sales for the year to increase 2% to 4% and earnings per share in the range of $1.45 to $1.55.

The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc (BONT) surged 9.7% or $1.16 to $13.07 after the retailer reported net sales in the fourth quarter ending on February 2 increased 3% to $1.02 billion from $983 million in the same period of last year. Comparable store sales for the quarter increased 1%.

Net income in the quarter declined 5% to $74.4 million or $3.71 a diluted share compared to $78.2 million or $4 a share a year ago.

The company expects adjusted EBITDA for the fiscal 2013 in the range of $180 million to $200 million and diluted earnings per share between 40 cents and $1. Comparable store sales to increase in a range of 2% to 3.5% and growth in gross margin rate to be 36% to 36.4%.

Tandy Leather Factory, Inc. (TLF) surged 13.4% or 83 cents to $7 after the leather related products retailer stated net sales in the fourth quarter ending in December climbed 9% to $20.6 million from $18.9 million in the same period of last year. Same store sales for the quarter climbed 12%.

Net income in the quarter surged 29.4% to $2.20 million or 22 cents a diluted share compared to $1.70 million or 17 cents a share a year ago.

Urban Outfitters, Inc (URBN) rose 5 cents to $41.55 after the retailer reported net sales in the fourth quarter ending in January soared 17% to $856.8 million from $730.6 million in the same period of last year. Comparable store sales for the quarter were flat.

Net income in the quarter jumped 110% to $82.5 million or 56 cents a diluted share compared to $39.3 million or 27 cents a share a year ago.
