11:55AM New York – Centex widens the loss, Las Vegas Sands earnings fell sharply, and Akamai Technologies earnings surge.
Centex Corporation home builder reported fourth quarter revenues were $2.31 billion, 36% lower than the same quarter last year.
Net loss in the quarter was $908 million, or a loss of $7.34 per diluted share sharply higher from a loss of $23 million, or $0.19 per diluted share in the previous year''s fiscal fourth quarter.
Centex stock (
CTX) stock rose 24 cents to $21.05.
Fresenius Medical Care AG & Co dialysis services provider said net revenue for the first quarter 2008 increased by 8% to $2,512 million, or 4% at constant currency, compared to the first quarter 2007.
Net income for the first quarter was $186 million, an increase of 16% from a year ago.
Earnings per share in the first quarter rose 15% to $0.63 per ordinary share compared to $0.54 for the first quarter of 2007.
Fresenius Medical stock (
FMS) edged up 3 cents to $52.95.
Canadian Pacific Railway Limited reported revenues rose 3% to $1.15 billion from $1.12 billion a year ago.
Net income in the first quarter was $91 million a decrease of 29% from $129 million in 2007 and diluted earnings per share was $0.59, a decrease from $0.82 in the same period a year ago.
Canadian Pacific stock (
CP) declined 75 cents to $68.41.
Health Net, Inc managed care provider said total revenues increased 11.9% in the first quarter of 2008 to $3.8 billion from $3.4 billion in the first quarter of 2007.
In the quarter net loss declined to $35.7 million or $0.33 per share compared to $88.6 million or $0.77 per diluted share.
Health Net stock (
HNET) fell $1.29 to $28.
Ingersoll-Rand Company Limited, industrial equipment provider said total revenue increased 9.5% to $2.16 billion compared with revenues of $1.97 billion in the 2007 first quarter. Net income in the quarter increased to $181.6 million or diluted earnings per share were $0.66.
Ingersoll Rand stock (
IR) fell 41 cents to $43.97.
International Shipholding Corporation an operator of diversified fleet of United States and foreign flag vessels said net income increased to $4.814 million for the three months ended March 31, 2008 compared to $4.740 million last year. Earnings per share increased 12% to 65 cents compared to 58 cents a year ago.
International Shipholding Corporation stock (
ISH) fell 44 cents to $18.57.
Las Vegas Sands Corp., The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino operator in Las Vegas and China said net revenue for the first quarter of 2008 increased 71.8% to $1.08 billion, compared to $628.2 million in the first quarter of 2007.
Net income in the quarter fell to $23.6 million, or earnings per diluted share of $0.07 compared to $114.6 million or earnings per diluted share of $0.32 in the first quarter of 2007.
