U.S. stocks extended gains for the sixth day after the Fed left rates unchanged and left the bond program intact. The Nasdaq closed at a high last seen a decade ago and the small companies focised Russell 200 index reached a new high. The dollar continued its slide and precious metals gained.

U.S. stocks edged higher after General Electric, Apple, American Express, Capital One and BB&T reported better than expected earnings. Oil gained 0.7% and increased for the second month in a row and extended advance to 25%. Gold stayed above $1,500 and silver jumped nearly 5%.

The Dow and the S&P 500 index soars more than 1.5% as large companies and technology companies led the advance. Earnings from IBM and Intel lift tech stocks. Gold crosses $1,500 an ounce and silver above $44. Crude oil advanced above $111 a barrel.

U.S. stocks wavered as lawmakers struggle to balance the budget and raise debt limit. Commodities were in focus after crude oil jumped to 3-year high and gold and silver reached a new 31-year high. Google agreed to conditions laid by the Justice Department for the purchase of ITA Software Inc.

U.S. stocks traded higher on economic optimism and robust merger activities. Resources linked stocks led the gainers after precious metals and crude oil advanced and the dollar weakened.

Australian stocks edged higher after the Reserve Bank of Australia left rates on hold for the fifth month in a row. Australia recorded trade deficit of $205 million in February as coal and iron ore shipments were delayed. The Australian dollar closed at $1.03.
