Market indexes in Japan closed higher for the third year in a row. Nikkei 225 gained 7.1% and Topix index added 8.1% in 2014. The yen remained weak as the Bank of Japan targeted higher inflation and drove the currency down.

Stocks in Tokyo reversed earlier gains and closed down after a man was tested positive for Ebola virus. Japan Post confirmed its plan to list on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. International investors increase the exposure to Japanese stocks by the smallest amount in five years.

Inflation index slowed for the fourth month in a row and industrial production fell in November in Japan. Auto production also declined 12% in the month. Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group agreed to acquire consumer banking business of Citigroup Inc in Japan.

Stocks in Tokyo advanced after energy-complex companies led the gainers. The third-largest refiner, Idemitsu Kosan is looking to buy Showa Shell Sekiyu KK. Skymark Airlines plunged after Airbus Group NV began legal proceedings.

Market indexes in Japan closed up 2.4% and for the week, the Nikkei index gained 1.4%. The yen resumed its downward decline and flirted with 120 mark against one dollar.

Stocks in Japan shot up following a surge in U.S. market indexes after the Fed appeared to be in no hurry to advance rate hike schedule in 2015. Adventure, the online air ticket site operator, soared 87% on debut. Dairei Co and Gumi closed below initial public offering prices.

Stocks in Japan and in Asia stabilized but Nikkie index lacked direction. The yen gained a fraction and oil and gold closed up. Japan Tobacco plunged more than 7% on the worries of Russia sales and a possible increase domestic tax.

Stocks in Tokyo and Asia declined for the second day on the dramatic turn of events in Russia. Nikkei dropped 2% and extended two-day sell-off after Russia hiked interest rate by 6.5% to ward off capital flight. Asahi Holdings Inc agreed to acquire Johnson Matthey Plc for $186 million.
