Stocks in Tokyo gained and the yen eased after retail sales rose 1.4% and industrial production unexpectedly gained in Japan. Airlines in Tokyo gained after crude oil prices trade near $70 a barrel. The yen weakened for the first time in four days. Toyota global vehicle production in October fell.

Australian market indexes opened lower and the crude oil prices plunged below $70 a barrel after the OPEC member nations left the oil production level unchanged. Qantas Airways surged and the airline announced investment in Jetstar Japan.

Market indexes in Tokyo closed lower and the yen struggled to hold firm after two weeks of weakness. Resource and oil exploration companies were in focus after the OPEC members disagreed to cut oil production. Yakult Honsha dropped 6% after the France-based Danone plans to sell its 20% stake.

Topix index in Tokyo edged lower after advancing for five days in a row. Tokyo Stock Exchange abandoned its plan to increase or add trading hours after resistance from brokerage firms. Inpex, Japan Petroleum Exploration and Taiyo Nippon Sanso dropped after oil dropped to a four-year low.

Medibank Private completed initial public offering and raised $5.9 billion. Stocks in Sydney traded lower after iron ore, gold and crude oil prices edged lower. Brickworks Limited said fiscal first quarter revenues rose 14%.

Adani Power to acquired Korba West Power for Rs 4,200 crore. Astral Poly Tech acquired 76% stake in Resinova. Indiabulls emerged as the highest bidder for land parcel of Voltas for Rs 236 crore or $40 million. Patel Engineering quarterly net fell 67%.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe dissolved Japanese parliament and set early snap election for the lower house in December. Finance Minister Taro Aso said the decline in yen this week had been too quick. The yen closed at the weakest level since August 2007.

Stocks in Japan and the Nikkei and Topix index advanced and the yen edged lower. Investors pinned hope on the new round of economic stimulus but the Bank of Japan and government struggle to increase aggregate domestic demand.

Nikkei index in Japan dropped 2.9% after the economy shrank in the latest quarter. GDP in the September shrank 1.6% in the third-quarter ending in September following revised 7.3% decrease I the second-quarter.
