The Bank of Japan in a surprise move expanded its already large asset purchase program and stepped up its fight against entrenched deflationary forces. The BOJ also lowered its estimate for inflation. In addition, the GPIF announced its plan to increase allocation to stocks and alternative assets.

Stocks in Tokyo closed higher and the yen dropped after the U.S. dollar at strongest since October 6. Daiwa Securities said second-quarter earnings increased 4.4% on higher underwriting fees and trading income. Japan Tobacco sales increased 1.3% and net declined 7.4%.

Stocks in Tokyo closed higher after domestic companies reported better than expected earnings. Investors also took a positive view on the outlook for the stimulus in Europe and estimated rates in the U.S. will remain low in the U.S.

Stocks in Tokyo halted a 2-day rally and market indexes eased after resource sector stocks declined. Nomura Holdings reported better than expected second-quarter earnings on higher broking and trading revenues. Softbank Corp plans to invest $627 million in India based Snapdeal.com.

ABB India quarterly profit climbed 25%. Alstom India won a contract of Rs 671 crore. L&T secured a contract worth Rs 2,989 crore. Linde India net plunged 90%. Ranbaxy Laboratories net swung to profit. Lupin net surged 55% on 19% increase in revenues.

Nikkei 225 index in Tokyo soared 2.6% following the market advance in New York and Europe. September trade deficit rose 1.6% after energy import surged 21%. Fujifilm Holdings plans to increase Aviga drug that showed promise in treating Ebola-infected patients.

Asian Paints quarterly profit rose 6%. BASF India and GNFC reported quarterly net swung to loss. Cairn India profit declined 33%. Kotak Mahindra net rose 23%. SKF India net jumped 26%. Wipro quarterly profit and revenue rose 8%.

Market indexes in Tokyo fell back after a record one-day rally in more than a year. The yen gained and the government officials clarified that the pension fund has still not decided on the allocation plan, contradicting the Nikkei newspaper report a day ago.

Nikkie surged on speculation that the nationís pension fund of $1.2 trillion is set to double its allocation to stocks. Mitsubishi Heavy rolled out its region jet, the first plane made in Japan. Resona and consortium reached the second stage of bidding for consumer business business of Citigroup.

Stocks in Tokyo closed lower and extended weekly losses. Nikkei 225 Stock Average declined 1.4% and for the week plunged 7.5%. Daiwa House REIT reported revenues in the fiscal year increased 19% and net rose 20%. Japan Material Co rose on better sales outlook.
