Stocks in Japan closed lower and the Topix declined 0.6% in the week and fell 0.9% in August. The yen slipped. Unemployment rate in July increased to 3.8%, core consumer price index was unchanged at 3.3% and industrial production declined 0.2%.

Stocks in Tokyo closed higher and the yen eased for the third day in a row. Central Japan Railway sought a 9 trillion yen plan approval for high speed trains between Tokyo and Nagoya by 2027.

Canara Bank dropped after announcing a stock split for 5-for-1. Supreme Court ordered DLF to pay Rs 630 crore within three months. Infosys maintained revenue growth for the year. SBI reduced its home loan by 0.15%. Venus Remedies in a partnership with Teva.

The Topix and Nikkei indexes in Tokyo declined and the yen eased after rising for two weeks in a row. Nikkei slipped 0.6% and the Topix eased 0.5%. E-Seikatsu, the cloud services provider said quarterly net surged.

Havells India surged after announcing a stock split for 1-for-5. L&T signed a contract in Bangladesh for Rs 1,210 crore. Suzlon Energy plans to raise Rs 4,000 crore through the foreign currency convertible bonds. Shree Cement net dropped. Tech Mahindra gained on higher outlook.

Alstom T&D India secured a contract worth €400 million from Power Grid Corporation of India. Ashoka Buildcon won projects worth Rs 863.3 crore from Bihar Power Distribution. Jindal Steel plunged 14% after Supreme Court ruled coal block allocation since 1993 illegal.

Market indexes in Tokyo extended two-week gains and the Topix index is close to erasing its loss in the year-so-far. Chugai Pharma dropped 9% after Roche decided not to bid for the remaining 40% stake. Press Kogyo reported better than expected sales.

Stocks in Tokyo closed lower and for the week the Nikkei index gained 1.5%. The yen weakened and construction companies led the market decline. The yen registered the largest weekly loss since March.
