Stocks in Japan dropped after a rise in weekly jobless claim in U.S. increased investor concerns. Toyota says its quality advisory panel will give initial recommendations shortly. The coincident index remains little changed in June.

The restaurant chains operator second quarter revenue rose 4% to $2.57 billion. Net quarterly income fell 6% to $286 million helped by strong growth in China and Yum! Restaurants International. Earnings per share declined to 59 cents a share from 63 cents a share a year-ago quarter.

U.S. indexes fall after weekly jobless claims increase to three-month high. Wheat futures surged nearly 8% after Russia banned exports. The euro gained after the ECB President Trichet said that the economies in the Europe are recovering at a faster than estimate pace.

Retailers traded mixed after the release of same store sales. Big Lots led the decliners in the S&P 500 index with a loss of 7%. Con-way dropped 9.6% after earnings plunged. Atmel Corp surged after earnings nearly soared ten-fold.
